ARMONK, N.Y. A small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed Curtis Winchester and Scott Staton performed at the North Castle Library Sunday afternoon.
Staton accompanied vocalist Winchester on keyboards through a series of soul, blues, standards and originals, with Staton performing a couple of boogie woogie tunes solo.
I loved the beat, it was off-beat music, said John Erickson, an Armonk resident in the audience. Theyre very talented young men. Im glad they joined us here.
Winchester released his first album last year, Do the Natural Thing, which features original songs, written mostly by Staton.
Ive been singing since 1985, since I performed impromptu on stage at a Christmas party, Winchester said. I latched on to something I enjoy.
Winchester and Staton perform at the Lazy Lounge in White Plains on Wednesday nights where they are accompanied by other musicians, including former New York Yankees star Bernie Williams, who plays guitar.
Staton is an artist and musician who works as an illustrator and also makes animated films.
Winchester and Staton performed a set that included Route 66, a Nat King Cole standard, Sittin on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding and a few originals from Winchesters album.
