Driver Slapped With Drug Charges

An early evening cruise through Westport cost Bridgeport resident Oswaldo Morales big time. Police spotted Morales, 23, driving east Thursday on Post Road East at Maple Avenue. After a computer check on his plates turned up no results, a further check showed that they had expired in August 2008 and were registered to another car. When Morales was stopped, one of the officers noticed the odor of burned marijuana coming from inside the car, police reports said. A search of the car turned up three plastic bags filled with varying amounts of marijuana and two smoking pipes. Morales, who didn't have a driver's license, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia.  He also received six motor vehicles charges. He is due in court on Sept. 20.
