If you've ever been tempted to turn right on red where it's prohibited, don't. This is a lesson a 20-year-old Southport resident learned in Westport early Tuesday morning.
The woman was driving north on Riverside Avenue when she made a right-hand turn at a red light onto Bridge Street, according to police reports. Not only was it a "No Turn on Red" zone, she also allegedly crossed the yellow centerline into the oncoming lane as she made her turn. When the woman was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on her breath. She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence, failure to obey a control signal, failure to drive right and passenger crowding in a motor vehicle. She is due in court on Jan. 3.

Norwalk resident Carol Mills, 44, turned herself in to Westport police Monday night. According to police reports, there was a warrant for her arrest stemming from a September traffic stop where she was found driving with a suspended registration. She allegedly failed to appear on the charge. When police were processing Mills, it was learned there was a Norwalk warrant for her arrest, also for failure to appear. She is due in court on Dec. 30.
