Westchester Board of Legislators Majority Leader Peter Harckham issued a proclamation Sunday to establish Dr. Abe Levy Day throughout the county as well. After 40 years, Levy is stepping down as the group's medical director, a position he has held since 1999. In 2004, he was designated chief quality officer.

Levy graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1966 and completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He went on to the University of Rochester as a fellow in psychosomatic medicine in 1972.

Since February 1998, Levy has championed the use of electronic medical records (EMR) and has been active in the implementation of three EMR systems at the Mount Kisco Medical Group and three in-patient EMR systems at other hospitals.

Levy is chairman of the American Medical Group Association's Political Action Committee and a member of the AMGA Public Policy Committee as well as the CMO Council. He is a past-president of the Westchester Academy of Medicine and immediate past-president of the Westchester County Medical Society.

"Every day has been enjoyable and it's been wonderful for me to be of service to the patients in this community," Levy said in an interview with The Daily Voice. "I'm honored to have been given the chance to do so."

In addition to many of Levy’s medical colleagues and friends, guests at Sunday's reception included Levy’s wife Pat, Cindrich and his wife, Linda, Mount Kisco Trustee Jean Farber and outgoing U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-19), who worked at the Mount Kisco Medical Group as an ophthalmologist. Her husband Dr. Scott Hayworth is the group's president and chief  executive officer.

Dr. Thomas Lester, an oncologist/hematologist, will take over for Levy with the new title of chief medical officer.

In his retirement, Levy, who lives in Pound Ridge with his wife, said he plans to relax, read, listen to music and play tennis.
