KATONAH, N.Y. Douglas E. Kellogg, a Katonah native, died July 6 in Wilder, Vt. He was 92.
He was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Katonah to William and Ethel Green Kellogg. Raised in Katonah, he graduated from Amherst College in 1941. After graduation, Kellogg joined the U.S. Army and served in Panama, Alaska, Guatemala and Okinawa during World War II as a member of the Signal Corps. Kellogg served 22 years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a major.
He married Joan Hill of Freyburg, Maine, in 1951. They lived in Connecticut and New Hampshire until her death in 2010. In 1959, Kellogg began a long career with Foredom Electric Company in Bethel, Conn. He became president and renamed the company Blackstone Industries.
Kellogg wrote a book in 1987 called "A Primer For Buying and Selling Small Manufacturing Companies." He enjoyed restoring old things, building stonewalls, collecting coins and stamps, carving canes and walking in the woods.
He is survived by two daughter, Linda (Rob) Glover, of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Diane (Jake) Forester, of Jamaica, Vt.; a son, Randolph Kellogg, of Washington, N.H.; a brother, Robert Kellogg, of Middlebury, Vt.; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa.
A celebration of his life will be held in September. Burial will follow at Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover, N.H. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amherst College.
