FAIRFIELD, Conn. A break-in at a Fairfield business Tuesday night caused an estimated $11,000 in damage but only yielded the burglar approximately $15 in change, police said.
The break-in occurred at Doughnut Inn on Black Rock Turnpike just before midnight Tuesday, police said. A person at the scene told police she heard a loud crash while in a back office and after seeing a window had been broken stayed inside. The witness did not see the suspect well enough to provide a description, police said.
When investigators arrived they found a 12-inch by 6-inch stone on the ground near the shops glass door. The door was shattered, causing approximately $1,000 in damage; two cash registers and computers also were broken, worth a combined $10,000.
The only item reported missing was a cash drawer containing an estimated $15 in change. The drawer was found emptied around the corner from the break-in on Fairfield Woods Road.
Police are reviewing video surveillance tape from the area in order to find a suspect. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Fairfield police at 203-254-4800.
