After Sunkiss, who was out with her brother, 4-year-old Bruno, fell into the ice, Patrolman Michael Poon put on the department's ice rescue gear and headed out to Lake Mohawk near Rainbow Trail, Sparta police said.
Poon crawled out onto the ice to reach the dog, entering the icy water and pushing Sunkiss back onto the ice, ensuring she made it safely onto dry land, police said.
"We are incredibly grateful for Ptl. Poon’s courage and dedication, and we also want to thank the concerned citizens who immediately contacted us to report the dog in distress," Sparta police said. "Your quick action truly made a difference."
