At 2:31 p.m., officers responded to the home at 102 Millstone Court and observed flames and smoke coming from the roof, Egg Harbor Township police said. While the homeowners were able to evacuate, the dog, Rocky, was unable to be rescued before the flames became too intense, police said.
Multiple fire departments assisted with fighting the blaze, which was extinguished after an hour, police said.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the Palankers to assist them with getting back on their feet.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but preliminary investigations do not reveal anything suspicious, police said.
