May 8 is Buddha's birthday, the conclusion of Be Kind to Animals Week, the anniversary of VE day (Victory in Europe, 1945) and Mother's Day in Korea and Bolivia. And, in Westport, it's Shred Day. On Shred Day, Westporters can discard up to five boxes of documents at The Health District location on Bayberry Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. The documents will be shredded, offering iron-clad protection from identity theft.
This is an opportunity for Westporters to dispose of personal, confidential and sensitive papers, such as bank statements, cancelled checks, credit card statements, tax papers, and medical records by watching their papers shredded on-site, said Joseloff. The boxes of documents shouldn't be larger than 12 by 18 inches. The shredded papers will be recycled. The shredding takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at 180 Bayberry Lane. Proof of residency is required. For more information, contact Town Clerk Patty Strauss at 341-1110, or via e-mail at [email protected].
