District Honors Champion Peekskill Bowling Team

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The city school district took time out of its budget planning Tuesday night to honor the high school's bowling team, which took home the Section I title last month.

All seniors on the team -- Adam Rivera, Brett Travis, Joseph R. Henry, and Lonnel Beechum -- were named All-League. In addition, team member Adam Rivera received league third-place honors for high-scoring game, high-scoring series, and overall average.

Several team members earned All-County and All-Section honors and competed in the state championship in Albany last month.

Athletic Director Lou Panzanaro credited Coach Agnes Travis with the team's huge success this year.

"I know in the first match of the season they lost -- and Coach had a little talk with them and they never lost another match," Panzanaro said. "I happened to see the last game when they competed against last year's league champ and projected champ for this year -- Hendrick Hudson -- and it was a phenomenal match. If Hen Hud rolled two strikes in a row, we rolled three. If they rolled three, we rolled four; we kept one-upping them."

Travis credited team members with constantly pushing themselves to get better and restoring a winning attitude to the program.

"Peekskill hasn't won a division in almost ten years. These young men were in first and second grade when that happened. They've made a culture for Peekskill again to wind up winning -- and hopefully next year, we'll do the same."
