Displaced Poughkeepsie Fire Victims Need Assistance

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A man displaced in an Aug. 28 fire at 7 N. Hamilton St. told Time Warner Cable News that although he'd received assistance for hotels from the Red Cross for several days, the assistance is no longer available.

The people displaced due to an Aug. 28 apartment fire in Poughkeepsie reportedly need help to find places to live.

The victims reportedly said their landlord has given "little help," according to Time Warner Cable News.

The landlord told the news agency "he's working with other property owners to find a home for his tenants." He also said the timing is unfortunate, with most places unavailable for rent, the report said.

Some of the victims have reached out to social service agencies for help, said Time Warner Cable News.

The fire being investigated started at about 4:30 a.m. last Sunday then spread to 9 N. Hamilton St. and 407 Main St. It displaced 21 people, according to the Poughkeepsie Fire Department.
