At 6:16 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, Dennis Hall called Franklin Township police and said his daughter, Devin Hall, 40, was not breathing, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew Johns said.
Hall admitted to strangling his daughter while speaking to emergency services and to officers, Johns said. Jan Hall, Hall's wife, told 6ABC that he woke her up and admitted to strangling their daughter.
Devin Hall was pronounced dead on Friday, June 12, after being taken off life support, and an autopsy determined the immediate cause of death was asphyxiation and the manner of death was homicide, Johns said.
Jan Hall, Devin's mother, told 6ABC her daughter had multiple disabilities from birth, used a wheelchair and was nonverbal, but was able to communicate in other ways. She told the outlet that her husband had experienced mental health issues and had recently undergone treatment for depression.
"Devin was a special daughter who endured many challenges and struggles during her life on this earth," her obituary from the Barclay Funeral Home website reads. "She was an inspiration to others, and she touched many with her beauty, gentle kindness, and innocent presence"
Devin loved to travel, having visited 32 states and was a huge Toby Keith fan, according to her obituary. She also visited Graceland and enjoyed going on long walks with her mother and being peddled on a bike, her obituary reads.
She is survived by her mother, her aunt, Jane, her dog, Mony, her cats, Milkman, NuB, Lily and Mr. Greysen, and numerous other family members and friends, according to her obituary.
