David McCarthy, 41, of Copiague, was arrested following the violent dispute at a residence on Haven Lane around 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, according to Nassau County detectives.
Police said McCarthy became involved in a verbal argument with a 28-year-old man before the confrontation escalated. During the dispute, McCarthy allegedly stabbed the victim in the leg, causing a severe laceration, authorities said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. His condition was not released.
McCarthy fled before officers arrived, but was later located and arrested without incident following an investigation, police said.
He is charged with Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
A preliminary arraignment was scheduled for Friday, June 5, at First District Court in Hempstead, according to police..
