David Hancock Jr., 86, Danbury Purchasing Agent

DANBURY, Conn. – David "Hank" Edward Hancock Jr. of Danbury died Sept. 19 at Hill House Assisted Living in Bath, Maine, after a prolonged illness. He was 86. 

Hancock was born March 14, 1926, in Danbury to D. Edward Hancock Sr. and Lina Dittus Hancock. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Jane Sandstrom Hancock, for 64 years.

He graduated from Danbury High School in 1944 and Quinnipiac University. He was a purchasing agent for Republic Foil, retiring after 38 years. A lifetime member of St. James Church, he served on the vestry and was a past president of its couples club.

Hancock was a past director of the National Purchasing Association. An avid boater and fisherman, he enjoyed tennis and golf. He most enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends at their summer home in Pemaquid, Maine.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nancy (Robert) Ochs; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at St. James Church in Danbury. A graveside service will immediately follow at Wooster Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Hull Funeral Service in Danbury is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Book of the Living Trust Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.
