Dariens six highest paid school employees, who also happen to be the highest paid town employees, will be taking either no or modest pay increases next year.
Superintendent Stephen Falcone is the highest-paid town employee, making $225,000 a year. That figure is expected to stay at the same level next year, according to the proposed 2011-12 budget. Last year, when Falcone was Assistant Superintendent, he earned $167,763. The previous superintendent, Don Fiftal, earned $255,360 in his final year.
Darien High School Principal Dan Haron is No. 2, earning $178,038 this year. For the past few years, Haron has received an annual pay increase of around 4 percent. Next year, however, his pay is expected to increase about 1.5 percent, for a total of $180,709.
Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Judith Pandolfo received $174,474 this year, an increase of about 4 percent from last year. Next year, like Falcone, her salary will remain the same as this year.
Matthew Byrnes, assistant superintendent for secondary education, joined the administration after the 2010-11 fiscal year began and so did not receive all of his $174,474 contracted salary. His salary will remain the same next year.
Middlesex Middle School Principal Debi Boccanfuso has also received a regular salary increase of about 4 percent for the past few years. Her salary this year was $166,425. Like Haron, her salary will increase by only 1.5 percent, for a total of $ 168,921.
Special Education Director Robin Pavia earned $161,367 and has also received a regular increase of about 4 percent in previous years. Next year she will also see her salary increase 1.5 percent to $163,788.
By lowering increases for Haron, Boccanfuso and Pavia the Board of Education is saving around $12,000 in salary requirements for next year.
