Darien Man Hurt in Brookside Crash

A 19-year-old Darien man was severely injured early Saturday when his car struck a utility pole on Brookside Road near Granaston Lane. Police arrived at 2:30 a.m., and the man was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

The man's Chevy Suburban was traveling north when he left the roadway and struck the utility pole, severing it, and then hit a stone wall and several trees, police said. The injured man was the only person in the car.

The Darien Police Accident Investigation Team was continuing to investigate. The section of Brookside Road was closed until noon while Connecticut Light & Power installed a new utility pole.
