Darien Lawmakers Earn High Marks On Environment

DARIEN, Conn. – Two of Darien’s three state representatives received perfect scores on the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters’ 2012 Environmental Scorecard based on their environmental voting records.

Sen. Bob Duff (D-Darien/Norwalk) and Rep. Terrie Wood (R-Darien/Rowayton) earned perfect scores of 100 based on their voting on bills related to the environment. Sen. Carlo Leone (D-Stamford/Darien) was given a score of 90.

The league tracked voting on 21 bills during the most recent legislative session. Of those 21, eight were perceived by the league to be hostile to the environment, while the other 13 were favorable. Four of the pro-environment bills passed, and all eight hostile bills failed.

According to the league, environmental priorities are trending upward in the state legislature. On the 2011 Environmental Scorecard, the average score was 76 percent, compared with 91 percent in 2012. This year, 53 more legislators received scores of 80 percent or higher than last year.

Duff’s lifetime environmental score is 90 percent. Leone's 84 percent, and Wood's is 78 percent.
