DARIEN, Conn. A house on Long Neck Point was broken into over the weekend while the residents were on vacation. Police said that the homeowner left at 11:30 a.m. on Friday to meet the rest of his family in Maine and returned at 5 p.m. Sunday.
About an hour after he returned, he noticed that sterling silver candlesticks, a candelabra and silverware were missing from the dining room. Cash was missing, as well as three Chanel purses valued at $3,000 apiece. Police are waiting for a final inventory of the missing items.
The man told police that he had locked the house before he left and that it was still locked when he got back. There was no sign of forced entry.

A Greenwich teen was charged with drunken driving in Darien on Friday night. Ian Forsell, 19, was pulled over on Middlesex Road by a roaming Department of Transportation patrol for driving 43 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer detected the strong odor of alcohol. Forsell failed a field sobriety test and admitted that he had been drinking at a residence in town, though he wouldn't say where, police said.
While police were doing an inventory of his car, they found a 1.75 liter bottle of rum that was almost full. Police said Forsell admitted that it was his. He was charged with DWI, possession of alcohol by a minor and traveling too fast for conditions. He posted a $250 bond and is due in court July 26.
