Darien GOP Sets Slate for Fall Election

DARIEN, Conn. – After the announcement last week that four of its members were retiring immediately, the Darien Republican Town Committee went ahead and selected its nominees for the open town offices for November's election. Most incumbents are looking to keep their current positions, with a few new names added to the ballot.

Jayme Stevenson will replace Dave Campbell as the Republican nominee for first selectman, after Campbell decided he wanted to step down from the top spot to devote more time to his family business. Campbell will run to stay on the Board of Selectmen, along with fellow Republican Selectman Jerry Nielsen.

Darien Board of Education chairman Kim Westcott announced in April she would not seek re-election this year after having served nine years. Michael Anton Harman will run for a spot this year. In addition, Morgan Whittier will seek re-election.

The terms of Board of Finance Chairman Liz Mao and former Chairman Murry Stegelmann are both up this year. The RTC has selected Mao and James McLaughlin to fill the spots.

Town Clerk Donna Rajczewski, Town Treasurer Joan Hendrickson and Tax Collector Robert Locke are all seeking re-election, as are Board of Assessment Appeals member Richard Dolcetti and Planning and Zoning Commission members Susan Cameron and Reese Hutchison. The lone Republican constable Joseph Tarnowsky is looking to be re-elected, and Louis Calastro has been nominated to fill one of the other two constable positions that will be open.

Seven Democratic town officials are also up for re-election this year, though the Democratic Town Committee has not yet revealed its nominees.

The nominations will be voted on at the Republican Town Caucus on July 21 to decide who gets official endorsements for November's election.
