DARIEN, Conn. David Streep, 25, was arrested on drunken driving, marijuana possession and a weapons charge after nearly hitting a police car Sunday. At 4:50 a.m., an officer had stopped another car on an unrelated traffic charge on the Post Road near the entrance to Interstate 95 when Streep almost hit the cruiser while driving past, police said.
The officer abandoned his previous stop and chased Streep, who didn't stop and crossed over the double yellow line several times. When Streep stopped, he seemed disoriented, police said. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana and alcohol from the car. Streep failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.
While doing an inventory of the car, the officer found a glass smoking device with residue and a grinder with about 0.7 grams of marijuana. He also found a billy club under the front passenger seat.
Streep, a Darien resident, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possessions of weapons in a motor vehicle and failure to drive right. He posted $250 bond and will go to court Aug. 3.
