DARIEN, Conn. The Darien Junior 6 Blue evened its record this season to 1-1-1 with a hard-fought 7-0 victory against Wilton on Sunday afternoon at Darien High School. The Blue defense played hard as it held Wilton to four first downs and never allowed the team inside the Red Zone.
The Blue got dominating line play from Charlie Zuro, Nick Santomassi, Mike Neary, Andrew Darby and Lucas Thompson. Darby and Thompson were particularly active from their end spots. Nick Cardone, Alex Marshman, John Mancini, Jack Savage and Dennis Kennedy rotated in on the defensive line and provided key support. Blue got great linebacker play from Will Enzor, Blake Sommi, Alex Dehmel and Ryan ONeil. Helping from the safety positions were Max Gasvoda, Brendan Ross, Mahmoud Ashrifeh, Brandon Yarish and George Raymond.
The Blue offense started slowly but got going in the second quarter. Sommi and Enzor along with Darby led an efficient offense that moved the ball well and scored on a pass play from Sommi to Darby. Enzor boomed in the extra point to give Blue the final 7-0 score. Lucas Thompson ran the ball hard, and Sommi ran hard as did ONeil and Enzor.
The Blue got good offensive line play. Tyler Aponte played well at center with help from Neary, Zuro, Santomassi, Mancini and Savage on the inside. Darby, Thompson and Gasvoda were good blocking from their end spots. The offensive line put the game away late in the fourth quarter with a key first down that helped run out the clock and seal the Blue victory.
