Darien 13s Play for State Crown

DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien 13-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team plays for the state championship Thursday when it meets New Milford at Ridgefield at 5 p.m.

Under manager Joe Marzano, Darien has gone 3-0 in the state tournament, including a 4-3 victory over New Milford in the winners' bracket final. If New Milford wins Thursday's game, it will force a winner-take-all game vs. Darien. That winner advances to the New England Regional, which begins next week in Norwalk.

New Milford survived the losers bracket final Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Simsbury.

Darien won Tuesday's game behind the pitching of Jake Frasca, who went six strong innings before Eddie Gozdz came on in the seventh. Andrew Enzor and Jamie Schofield delivered RBI singles in the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and lead Darien to the victory.

Darien won its first District 1 title in 42 years earlier this month with a victory over Stamford.
