Danbury Performance Scores Show Several Schools Declining

Each school is given a School Performance Index that combines student performance in all tested grades and subjects. Indexes at 100 indicate that, on average, all students are at goal or higher, 88 to 100 is at target, 67 to 88 is at proficient, 33 to 67 is at basic and lower than 33 is below basic.

Overall, six Danbury schools showed an improvement in student performance, while 10 schools showed a decrease in performance.

The goal in releasing the data is to help schools learn more about how to best improve student achievement, the state Department of Education said.

Danbury High School and the Center for Excellence were categorized as review schools, which are the lowest performing schools in the state, regardless of Title I status. The schools can be cleared of this label if they show a testing performance participation rate of more than 95 percent and exceed their graduation rate and performance targets for two years in a row.
