DANBURY, Conn. A 43-year-old Danbury man shot a dog that attacked his dog twice early Monday on Oak Ridge Avenue, police said. The wounded animal had to be put down, according to police.
Christopher J. Masi, of 5 Oak Ridge Ave., was charged with cruelty to an animal, a felony, and unlawful discharge of a firearm, a misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 30.
Masi first shot the unnamed, male dog with a pellet gun at about 2 a.m. after it jumped a fence and tried to attack his female dog, Danbury Police Capt. Tom Wendel said. Masis shot hit the dog in the rear quarter, and it ran off.
About four hours later, the dog returned and again tried to attack Masis dog, Wendel said. This time, Masi shot it with a .22-caliber rifle in the upper right shoulder, police said. The dog was found alive nearby at 8 a.m. but had to be euthanized, police said.
Masis dog was not injured in the attacks, police said.
