DANBURY, Conn. To make room for an additional 14 new public computers and other improvements, the Danbury Library will close for four days beginning late next week.
The library, located at 170 Main St., will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 25, through Tuesday, Aug. 28. It will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, according to Director Michele Capozzella.
The 14 new computers will be installed on the first floor and bring the total number on that level to 32. An additional 19 computers are located on the second floor in the librarys technology center.
Those 32 computers will be relocated into what is currently the Home & Family section of books, gathering all of the computers on the first floor in a single area. The setup will be more convenient for patrons, Capozzella said, and allow staff to better monitor the machines, which have been divided in a couple of areas.
Were trying to create more space by placing the computers in one area, which will allow us to add more tables for patrons who bring in their own laptops, Capozzella said. The librarys computers typically have a three-year lifespan before they are cycled out to staffers.
In addition to the new computers, the library also will construct new shelves for books and install some new cubicles. Members of the citys Building Department will assist library personnel in removing old shelves and installing the new components.
The reconfiguration process has been planned for more than a year, and the new computers, shelves and cubicles were purchased with money from the librarys capital improvements budget. Library staffers will work throughout the reconfiguring process, Capozzella said.
Its going to look really nice, she said. But its also a work in process. Once the public starts using the facility after the reconfiguration, if we find that somethings not working, we can change it.
