Apologizing for the noise disturbance, Janine King, assistant village manager of the Village of Croton, explains that the Village Office is one of the Croton locations still without power nearly a week after the storm. The village needs to run the diesel generators at 1 Van Wyck Street to maintain police and other essential government services, including our Emergency Operations to coordinate the ongoing post-storm clean up.
King says they are evaluating damage from Irene to all the villages facilities, including parks. Some of our facilities appear to have sustained considerable damage. All facilities on the Croton River remain closed while we assess needed repairs.
Some 50 families were still without power according to King. She encourages those with generators to share them if they now have power. She says running long extension cords running through town from generators is neighborly, but a hazard. It would be better for those that no longer need them to share with those that do. King compliments the community for coming together throughout this week of need.
