“Unlike other studios that do competitions, we do charity events and fundraising,” said Daly, a borough resident who opened the Knickerbocker Road studio in 2006.
Cresskill Performing Arts' four performing companies have several benefits scheduled this fall. Young dancers will perform routines they learned last season.
Dancers will be at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Ridgefield next month. The charity event is a three-to-five-mile walk in communities around the country that help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
Cresskill Performing Arts last fall began a new partnership with A Slice of Hope, a national non-profit organization that throws pizza parties with live music at homeless shelters around the country.
Daly said she’s working to bring more studios on board for another performance with a Slice of Hope this year for a collaborative dance performance.
“That’s the kind of thing we do,” said Daly, whose studio also offers acting, singing and fencing classes. “Obviously I want to pay my bills but that’s not why I’m in this business.
“This is a hard business," she said. "You have to love it and do it for all right reasons.”
