Geoffrey Reynolds, age 70, died yesterday from injuries he received in a head-on collision on Greensfarms Road, on April 29. Brian Taplinger, age 21, lost control of his car when his dog jumped into his lap, according to a statement released by Lt. Arthur Belile of the Westport Police.
Both men, Westport residents, were taken to Norwalk Hospital. Taplinger suffered major but non-life threatening injuries to his legs. Reynolds was listed in severe condition until his death. The dog was sent to the Norwalk Emergency Veterinarian, where it was euthanized because of an extreme spinal injury.
Reynolds wife, Janet, answered the door at the Compo Road South home she shared with her husband. She did not want to speak to the media. Reynolds ran his video engineering business out of their house.
No charges are filed at this time and the accident is under investigation. Police said they are waiting for a report from the medical examiners office before making any final determinations. That report might take up to two weeks. Taplinger told officers at the scene about his dog causing the crash.
