The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers to stop using about 393,000 Power Quick Pot pressure cookers on Thursday, Oct. 15. The appliances' lids can open while they're still pressurized, causing hot contents to shoot out and potentially injure people nearby.
The warning involves 6-quart Power Quick Pot electric pressure cookers with model number Y6D-36. The stainless-steel appliances have black lids, button controls, and digital temperature and function displays.
Federal regulators have received 24 reports of the pressure cookers unexpectedly expelling hot contents, resulting in serious burn injuries, according to the CPSC.
"The importer, Tristar Products, Inc., of Altamonte Springs, Florida, has refused to recall these products or offer a remedy to consumers," the agency said.
The pressure cookers were sold through several online retailers, including Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. They were available from July 2018 through November 2023. They cost between $44 and $160.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the affected pressure cookers and dispose of them. Federal regulators warned people not to sell or give away the appliances.
