The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the alert for Dovety Steam Cleaners on Thursday, May 7. The handheld, pressurized steam cleaners can leak or suddenly eject hot water or steam, creating a risk of serious burns.
According to the CPSC, there have been 52 reports of hot water spitting, spewing, spraying, spilling out, or leaking from the steamers. The incidents have caused at least 48 reported burn injuries.
The affected steam cleaners have a compact plastic body, an integrated water tank, a trigger-style steam release on the handle, and a screw-type cap on top where the tank is filled. The model number "TMSC-001" is printed on a label on the bottom of the unit, and the brand name "Dovety" is on the side.
The steam cleaners were sold online through Amazon and TikTok. The Chinese seller, Shenzhen Kaisennic Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., has not agreed to a recall, according to the CPSC.
Customers are being told to stop using the steam cleaners immediately and dispose of them. The CPSC also warned people not to give them away or sell them.
