Couple Charged with Biting, Choking in Fairfield

Update, 7/18/2012: The charges against Alexandra Timoshin have been dropped. John Best has pleaded guilty to a charge of breach of the peace, according to Connecticut Judicial records.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield man and his girlfriend were both charged with assault early Tuesday morning after a physical fight in the man’s home. John Best, 32, of Parkway and Alexandra Timoshin, 33, of Wilton strangled and bit each other during the altercation, according to police reports.

Police were called to Best’s home at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday to respond to the fight. The couple told police that an argument over a cellphone became physical. When Timoshin reached for the phone, Best reportedly placed his arm around her neck to restrain her. She then bit his index finger to get him to release his grip, drawing blood, police said.

Both were charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Best was also charged with third-degree strangulation. Timoshin was released on a promise to appear in court, and Best posted a $1,000 bond. Both are due in court Tuesday.

A Fairfield man was charged with drunken driving early Tuesday morning. Robert May, 65, of Woodrow Avenue was allegedly driving erratically while trying to take his adult son to the hospital for treatment after a fall.

A Fairfield police officer saw May driving along the Post Road near Beach Road just before 1 a.m. Tuesday when May began weaving between lanes, according to the police report. When stopped, May failed field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit, police say.

Also in the car was May’s 33-year-old son, who was bleeding profusely during the call. May told the officer the two had been drinking that day, and the son slipped and fell on a glass mug. The spill caused an eight-inch laceration on the man’s back and a three-inch cut on his arm, police say. Paramedics took him to St. Vincent’s Hopsital for treatment.

May was released on a $100 cash bond. He is due in court on March 20.
