Countywide Blood Drive Sets a Record

STAMFORD, Conn. — A record 388 pints of blood, enough to save the lives of more than 1,100 Connecticut hospital patients, was collected during the 2011 Fairfield County Property Managers and Landlords Blood Drive Challenge, a statement said. The blood is donated to the American Red Cross.

“The donation results demonstrate the impact that our government representatives, landlords and property managers can have in helping our local communities,” said Jodi Gutierrez, on-site property manager of High Ridge Park Corporate Center and founder of the challenge.

For the second consecutive year, Greenwich Town Hall won the challenge this summer. The winner is decided basis of participation relative to the location’s size.

Blood donations this past summer were the lowest the Red Cross has seen in 10 years, the release said.

“Since 2006, the challenge has raised 1,812 pints of blood and, with each year, continues to grow and serve the community,” said Joan Bennett, Red Cross district manager/donor services.

The Property Managers organization held its first drive at High Ridge Corporate Park about six years ago, Gutierrez said. Since then, the effort has been expanded, and there are now drives throughout the summer at properties around Fairfield County.
