DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Alexandra Puglisi opened the home schedule with a gem for the Mercy College softball team Sunday.
The sophomore starting pitcher tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out eight in a 10-0 victory in game one over Holy Family University. The game was halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Holy Family won the second game, 8-3.
Jackie Couillard had a two-run single in the first inning, then her two-run single in the second capped a four-run inning. In the second game, Couillard drilled a pinch-hit three-run homer.
Kelly Benston, from Brewster, N.Y., had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run and Jenna Ausiello went 3 for 3 with two runs scored.
