Cortlandt Neighbors Notes

Let’s face it – this week had one name and one name only and her name was Irene.  She took up all of our time and energy and if that wasn’t enough she also took lights, cable and Internet.  Cell phones kept people in the loop.  Facebook was quite the method of communication.

As the food gets replaced, the kids get settled in colleges all over America and the younger ones prep for back to school next week, I remain delighted to live in a community where kindness, goodness and selflessness for others really does seem to be the norm.  We helped out our neighbors and shared our homes, washing machines and coffee.

This week’s photos are a montage from our friends and neighbors who were out and about documenting this for all of us to witness.

Missy Johannsen kept me (and many others!) up to date on the amount of water with her hourly pictures of her yard.  To see the water rising at such a rapid pace was crazy!  Since she lives ON the Hudson in Verplanck at the Viking Boat Yard she truly had a bird’s eye view.  As you can see in the last picture she is a FUN Mom and just went with the flow of the day!

Jody Carroll of Montrose, and of course, Fire Dogs, Inc. was on the scene with his pictures.  Note that his picture of Steamboat Dock is taken a few hours before Lisa’s.

Lisa Cole of Verplanck took her trusted VW Bug Convertible out and about and took lots of pictures of the area for those of us not quite ready to go out and about.  Her photo of Steamboat Dock is probably four hours after Jody’s.

Faith Powell of Cortlandt Manor shows the kids splish splashing away ON Sprout Brook Rd – they had a CRAZY amount of water!

Jan Meliti of Verplank went over to the Croton Dam and got some stunning shots of the power of the water with her family.  The following day she headed over to Blue Mountain Middle School and took a shot of that “lake.”

Don Rizzo of Cortlandt Manor was also a roving photographer on the day of the storm.  His photo of the Cortlandt Yacht Club is just one of the many he took.

Linda Chen ventured out and took this picture of Furnace Woods Elementary school under water.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
