Corey Hooks Charged In Child Exploitation Case: Scpd

A disturbing online conversation led to the arrest of a Greenport man after investigators say he sent an explicit image to someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl and was later found with child sexual abuse material on his phone, Suffolk County Police announced on Monday, June 1.

Corey Hooks, 37, of Fifth Street in Greenport, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department's Digital Forensic Unit, according to the release.

The investigation began after detectives received a report that Hooks traveled to Topgolf in Holtsville on Monday, May 26, to meet an individual he believed was a 13-year-old girl he had met on social media, police said. Investigators allege he had previously sent the purported child an indecent photograph.

As detectives continued their investigation, they determined Hooks possessed child pornography on his cellphone, according to police.

Hooks was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Attempted Dissemination of Indecent Material, authorities said.

He was held at the Sixth Precinct pending arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, June 2, according to the department.
