POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Cora Mae Overby, of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, May 21, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was 64.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1952, in Newark, N.J., to Rena Smith (birth mother) and her parents who took care of her, James and Lorraine Patterson.
She graduated from Dumbar High School in Salisbury, N.C. Her compassion for others led a journey to work for individuals with disabilities. She was employed by Greystone Programs for many years, and continued on with Abilities First until retirement.
She is survived by five children, Willie E. Davis, Teresa Adobley, Arnetha Davis, Ulysses Davis and Marzell Davis; siblings, Charles Patterson, Phillip Patterson, Norman Patterson, Joe Joe Overby and Mary Lou Overby; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers, David Patterson, Brian Patterson, James Patterson Jr. and Junie Patterson; and three sisters, Liz Hudson, Lisa Overby and Queen Esther Harris.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, My 31, from 10-11 a.m. at Beth-EL Church of God in Christ, 91 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, with a service at 11 a.m.
Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph. J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 S. Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie
