FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfields liquor stores saw an unusual spike in fake identification attempts Thursday afternoon, police said. Five people were charged with misrepresentation of age in attempts to buy alcohol within a three-hour period, four of whom were caught at the same store, police said.
All of the incidents occurred between 2:30-5 p.m. Thursday afternoon, police said. Suspects from Milford, Mass., Fairfield, Commack, N.Y., Brooklyn, N.Y., and Holbrook N.Y. entered Fairfield liquor stores to purchase alcohol, including at Thats the Spirit Shoppe on Fairfield Beach Road and one at Grasmere Discount Liquor; all five were under 21, police said.
All five attempted to use fake IDs purchased from an overseas website, police said. Clerks were able to identify the counterfeits by missing holograms or discoloration, police said. All five IDs were confiscated, and the five suspects were released on promises to appear in court.
