Daniel Conklin had resigned as a detective with the New Haven Police Department and was due to be sworn in as an entry-level officer with the Westport department on Monday, according to the Westport News.
However, a citizen pushback against Conklin's hiring was driven by reports that he had been accused of tampering with evidence and defying department policy in more than one instance in New Haven, according to Westport News.
Members of the public and the Representative Town Meeting opposed Conklin's hiring in Westport, and on Thursday he rescinded his resignation with the New Haven Police Department, according to the Westport News.
Though Westport officials had initially stood by hiring Conklin, it was later confirmed that he would not be joining the Westport department, Westport News reported.
