Commuters Granted a Reprieve

Westport is giving commuters who might have missed an important deadline a reprieve. Deputy Police Chief Dale Call issued an announcement on Friday that people who missed renewing their railroad parking permits by the June 20 expiration will have until July 31 to get that taken care of.

The problem, according to Call, was that a small percentage of customers did not receive a permit renewal letter due to a mailing error. Even though the expiration date is on the permit, some people unfamiliar with the process might have missed the deadline. So, the department extended the timeframe a month to give them a fair chance to get caught up.

Failure to renew by the new deadline could result in the permit being purged from the system. That would mean a return to the waiting list.
