Community Comes Together for Tiffany

When Tiffany Vizzo was diagnosed with cancer last year, just a few weeks after giving birth to twins, Torey Strauser knew she wanted to help. Strauser and several other friends and relatives developed a race, and it steps off Sunday at Cove Island Park in Stamford.

Together for Tiffany, a 5-kilometer run and walk, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Proceeds will help defray medical expenses for Vizzo, who is battling Follicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

"With all the medical expenses associated with cancer, it's tough for a dual-income family to handle the bills,'' Strauser says. "The response has been great. We've been receiving inquiries from all over the United States."

Strauser said she's surprised by the response the event has generated. She expects at least 100 runners and/or walkers. "I anticipate that we'll have more walkers than runners,'' Strauser says. "We're trying to make it as professional as possible."

Vizzo is the wife of Strauser's cousin, Steven. The Vizzos and Strauser are Greenwich residents.

Zody's 19th Hole at E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course will host a reception after the event with a raffle and auction. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children.

Even though the event is in its first year, Strauser says the event has generated a lot of attention. "It really has gone as well as we could have hoped,'' she says. "I was nervous throughout the whole thing. For the first year, it hasn't gone so bad."
