The “Stop Making Excuses!” gathering was held Wednesday at the Kent Public Library, and was hosted by Putnam County Legislator Toni Addonizio.
Anthony Cardinale, a third-grade teacher at Kent Elementary School, Cathy Sapeta of New Yorkers United for Kids, and Brewster resident Christine Zirkelbach each gave their points of view regarding Common Core, according to a press release from New Yorkers United for Kids.
Besides the issues of poverty contributing to skewed test scores, activists are concerned about the recently implemented Statewide Longitudinal Database System.
The system, which is not voluntary, tracks over 400 pieces of data that could compromise the privacy of students and their parents, according to New Yorkers United for Kids.
The data collected includes medical information, political beliefs, religious practices, income, and parents’ education levels.
