There are certain things one expects from a planning and zoning meeting. For example, discussions on amendment changes to allow for things like boat sales are entirely in character. But that isn't where Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Ron Corwin took last night's meeting.
Well, okay, the commission did talk about standard amendment items for most of the meeting. For example, it discussed Amendment 612, which allows for a bit more freedom on where a business can sell boats and boating accessories. But they also scheduled a chunk of time to mull over the rather un-P&Z topic of decorum at meetings.
"In the past, there have been questions about what is allowable in the context of a meeting," said Planning and Zoning Director Lawrence Bradley. Past problems have ranged from heated commentary to signs and poster boards that the board felt were more distracting than helpful.
Bradley said the matter did not come up because of concern over any future business. He said certain past experiences prompted Corwin to draft rules to head off disruptive behavior in the future. "Mr. Corwin wants to have an open discussion on behavior at meetings," said Bradley.
