To use your Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program benefits card at the market, first visit the market table that features a banner: “Use Your SNAP Benefits Card Here!”

At the table, you may use your SNAP Benefits Card to purchase $1 wooden Electronic Benefit Transfer tokens. These tokens can be used like cash to purchase market goods. The tokens are accepted at any market booth with a sign that states: “EBT Tokens Accepted Here.”

The tokens may be used to buy fruits and vegetables, breads, fish, baked goods (for home consumption, dairy, maple and honey products. Unused tokens can be exchanged at the market table for a refund that is credited to your SNAP benefits card. You also may keep unused tokens for use during your next visit. The tokens do not expire.

Fresher food is just one benefit of shopping at a farmers market. The fruits and vegetables found at a farmers market may only be a few hours old, so these fresh goods are being offered at the peak of their flavor and nutritional value.

The Cold Spring Farmers’ Market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Saturday. During its outdoor season (May through October), it can be found at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison, just south of Cold Spring on Route 9D. From November through April, it is at the Parish Hall, St. Mary’s-in-the-Highlands in Cold Spring.

The market connects the community and visitors to locally grown food while supporting Hudson Valley farming and farmers. All market vendors meet strict guidelines, grow or raise their products within a 200-mile radius, use locally sourced ingredients and depend on their farms for a living.
