Precipitation spread west to east on Sunday, April 5, with moderate downpours in many areas, according to the National Weather Service. Total rainfall amounts will range from 0.25 to 0.50 inches, with locally higher amounts farther south. Winds will gust above 20 mph, with stronger gusts of 40 mph or more possible along the eastern Carolinas and Delmarva by late Sunday.
“The risk of storms and downpours will reach the East Coast and I-95 corridor on Easter Sunday,” AccuWeather Vice President of Forecasting Operations Dan DePodwin said. “Heavy rain, lightning, and strong wind gusts could spoil plans for outdoor egg hunts, church services, and family gatherings.”
For those attending sunrise services along the I-95 corridor, much of the early morning may remain dry. However, rain and storms will arrive before lunchtime in areas like New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, AccuWeather says.
The heaviest storms are expected late in the day across areas from the Carolinas to Delmarva, where wind gusts above 40 mph could cause minor damage and toss around outdoor holiday decorations. Ponding on roadways and localized flooding are also possible.
Behind the front, cooler air will sweep into the Northeast by Monday, April 6, as skies clear. The unseasonably warm temperatures ahead of the front will give way to a chillier pattern.
