Cold Can't Stop Norwalk Softball Players

The softball season got off to a chilly start in Norwalk on Saturday as nearly 25 teams participated in the Bill Krause 1-Pitch Tournament, sponsored by the Norwalk Area Umpires Association.

Games were played at Calf Pasture Beach in a double-elimination tournament. The players wore hats, mittens and jackets in a mostly futile attempt to keep warm. With the wind whipping in from Long Island Sound and temperatures in the low to mid-40s, the conditions were among the worst ever for the tournament. The event ushers in the recreational softball season in Norwalk. Norwalk Recreation and Parks league play begins April 25.
