A man looking for clams Sunday drew looks himself when he wandered close to the pier off Calf Pasture Beach. Several people stopped to watch, studying the man's maneuvers as he dug through the mud with a pitchfork and then inspected what he found.
He wasn't having much luck. Mostly he dug up rocks, but occasionally found a prize to put in the basket he had suspended in an inner tube. After about 15 minutes he had maybe 10 clams to take home.
"The water is still way too high," he said. "If you're going to get them you've got to go deep in the water."
