YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Ten college-bound local high school seniors were recognized by the Yorktown Town Board Tuesday night for being the recent recipients of scholarships from the nonprofit organization Circolo da Vinci.
Circolo da Vinci has been helping local students for nearly 30 years while also positively promoting Italian-American heritage. Its annual awards dinner was a few weeks ago.
"Their mission is to help keep Italian heritage culture alive," said Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace. "It is one of the things that makes Yorktown one of the best towns of its kind. It's amazing what some of these kids have done."
This year, Circolo da Vinci awarded 10, $1,000 scholarships. Winning the scholarships were Amanda Buonagurio, Courtney Cook, Timothy George, Thomas Menton and Meaghan Skelly of Yorktown High School, Victoria Esser and Cara Natale of Lakeland High School, Jena Lynne DiFrisco and Angelica Staib of John F. Kennedy High School, and Vincenzo Recine of Somers High School.
