Christopher Brown, 45, was taken into custody on Thursday, Oct. 29, on Barclay Street in the City of Poughkeepsie, according to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office Drug Task Force.

The arrest followed a months-long investigation by the Task Force into suspected drug dealing on the city's South Side. According to prosecutors, investigators identified Brown as a suspected drug dealer operating at several locations throughout the city.

Over several months, Task Force agents made several narcotics purchases from Brown as they built their case against him, officials said. On Thursday, investigators moved in as Brown was leaving an apartment building on Barclay Street.

Brown was carrying cocaine packaged for sale when he was arrested, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Brown was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and ordered held without bail at the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center, formerly known as the Dutchess County Jail.

Prosecutors said more charges are pending in connection with other alleged drug sales.
