Police Chief Ed Nadriczny says he is pleased that the investigation of the fatal hit-and-run accident in August has been completed. The investigation that led to the arrest of Kate H. Regan on Wednesday finished in less than three months, although many thought it would take longer as police waited for the state to review evidence.
Nadriczny wrote a letter in September to the state police crime lab asking investigators to act more quickly in analyzing the forensic evidence. "When we asked them, they said they would do all they could to expedite the process," he said.
Regan, 32, of 383 Michigan Road, has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility resulting in physical injury or death. Police said Regan's vehicle hit 82-year-old Krishna S. Jayaraman of Oenoke Ridge Road on Aug. 18 as Jayarman was at his mailbox. He died at Norwalk Hospital after suffering "multiple traumatic blunt injuries."
Police had Regan's vehicle, an Infiniti SUV, prior to the woman's arrest. Nadriczny did not elaborate on what he said led to the arrest or the investigation beyond what was in a press release issued on Wednesday. "We tried to do the best we could to move the investigation along as quickly as possible," Nadriczny said Thursday. "We're pleased that it came to a successful conclusion."
Regan was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 17 in Norwalk Superior Court.
