WILTON, Conn. Fire officials were warning residents near the site of a small chemical at 26 Pond Road, Wilton, Monday morning to stay inside their homes. The fire broke out during removal of an oil tank at a residence, Wilton Police Capt. John Lynch reported. It started when chemicals mixed and began to smoke, Lynch said.
Wilton Police said reports of an explosion at the site were incorrect. Fairfield County hazmat trucks from Westport and Norwalk responded, Lynch said.
Their presence was mainly precautionary, he said.
